![]() Unfortunately, there were some things I didn't like as well. ![]() However, the book was not all darkness and death, and there were many parts that were light and romantic, and helped balance the mood of the story. The murders and the clues were sufficiently creepy, and parts of the investigation were chilling, which is exactly the feel I want from a murder mystery. The mystery was handled well, and while I was able to correctly predict the identity of the killer, I actually had several different theories throughout the book, so she kept me guessing. The prose was lovely and engaging, and flowed nicely through the narrative. The city itself seemed to be a character in the story, and I would love to read more books set here. ![]() Fiona Paul painted a beautiful picture of Venice that transported me to a city of artists and canals and gondoliers and crumbling old mansions. But the problems I had with it are, I think, simply a matter of preference and not to do with the writing or the storytelling itself, so I can fully understand why so many others adore this book.įirst, the things I liked.
